Bio
Black Cadmium is the solo project of Rotterdam-based artist Joe Macnack, a trailblazer in the Dutch underground whose sound bridges the past, present, and future. Rooted in Black rave culture and the rich club history of Rotterdam, he blends house, techno, UK bass, breaks, and Afro-infused rhythms into a raw yet spiritual form of machine funk. His sets move between deep groove, futuristic energy, and emotional intensity, shaped by a strong connection to both the UK underground and Detroit’s electronic lineage.
Known for his powerful, confrontational, and emotionally charged signature, Black Cadmium channels the timeless energy of 90s and early 2000s techno while embracing the forward-thinking spirit of new-school electronic music. By weaving together the knowledge of dance music’s history with contemporary innovation, he offers a refreshing and modern take on techno that stands out in a landscape of uniformity.
On stage, he is celebrated for his versatility and razor-sharp selection shifting seamlessly from UKG rollers to percussive techno, from rave-infused euphoria to IDM-driven depth. His performances have resonated across Europe, with appearances at major festivals like Lowlands, HORST Arts & Music, DRIFT, Wildeburg, DTRH and at renowned clubs including Panorama Bar (Berlin) and EXPORT (Rotterdam).
After years of operating as a duo, Black Cadmium is now fully solo, armed with a renewed artistic focus and a distinct musical identity. His resilience and uncompromising creative drive continue to push boundaries, move dancefloors, and inspire audiences to rediscover the true essence of techno: raw, honest, and always from the heart.
